Home
The sun casts her laughter
Over the silvery gravel.
Bare sycamores bow As the breeze whistles
Round their ashen limbs.
Oceans of golden grasses Flutter gracefully As the fields glow with evening promise.
Nestled on the land Is a pleasant house Where love pours from the panes.
I am home.
Story behind the poem: If you're not aware, my family and I recently moved out onto a gorgeous property. I've been meaning to write about the land for a while, but just recently got around to creating this poem.
This piece is about the precious home I've been given. But it's also about "home" in general. When I think of home - true home - several words come to mind. Rest. Security. Belonging. Love. We desperately crave these sensations, which is why it's so devastating when we don't experience them. Thankfully, all our yearnings for home can be satisfied in Jesus. When we fall into His arms, we are finally at peace, because we realize we are lavishly treasured and accepted by Him. We are no longer vagabonds - we are found.
Better yet, Jesus is also preparing an ideal, future Home for us. I believe every moment of joy, hope, and "at-homeness" we savor on earth is a glimpse of what that Heavenly Home will be like.
Hope this encourages you! I'll be sharing more Lent-related posts very soon. :)
"The ancient God is home on a foundation of everlasting arms."
- Deuteronomy 33:27 (The Message Bible)
"There is more than enough room in my Father’s home. If this were not so, would I have told you that I am going to prepare a place for you?"
- John 14:2 (New Living Translation)
