Here in the Quiet Place

Here in the quiet place

I can breathe

I’m swept up in the clouds

The wind revives me

There’s a symphony of color

All around.

It smells like firs and clarity

I’m brought back to myself

Every fiber of me

Fixated on You.

I see Your eyes

I feel Your touch

I weep because

You Love me so much.

I know wherever You are

Is my quiet place.

Story Behind the Poem: I deeply love this poem, and felt so much joy and peace as I was writing it. One of the amazing things about being a child of God is that you can experience rest at all times, regardless of your circumstances. The "quiet place" isn't really a place at all - it's a person. His name is Jesus, and He's been my strength in the midst of many overwhelming days and dark nights. This reminds me of Psalm 16:8 (NLT):

"I know the Lord is always with me.

I will not be shaken, for he is right beside me."

Yet even though the peace of Jesus is always accessible, I think there's also something sacred about taking time to dwell in the "quiet place" of God's presence. Sitting down to pray often feels awkward or boring, and sometimes even painful. However, as someone who makes it a daily practice in their life, I have found it to be an exceedingly beautiful and rewarding experience. If you don't already set aside a regular "quiet time" to listen for God's Voice, read Scripture, process your emotions with Him, etc., I'd encourage you to try it!
