Ladybugs
I busied myself with meaningless stuff
And forgot to go hunting for ladybugs.
I love children. I admire their innocence, fearlessness, and wonder. Recently a little boy whose family was visiting our home invited me to help him hunt for ladybugs. My heart warmed as I watched him wander through the fields in front of our house, pressing aside blades of grass and cupping the bugs in his hands. Each new ladybug he encountered was a cause for celebration.
I know I might sound like a broken record, writing poem after poem about slowing down, becoming childlike, and savoring the little things. But I can't seem to stop writing about these subjects. Gratitude is a mindset that has continually sustained me. We are surrounded by countless expressions of love, beauty, and grace, but we must posture our hearts like wide-eyed children in order to see them.
I hope your week is going well. I also hope you're able to spend some time "ladybug hunting" - in other words, doing something simple and restful that brings you joy. :)
"Whoever continually humbles himself to become like this gentle child is the greatest one in heaven's kingdom realm."
- Matthew 18:4 (The Passion Translation)
