Silhouettes

One day the view will be endless,

And all truth will be unveiled.

But until then we must cling to

Glimpses of Beauty,

Silhouettes of purpose,

Shadows of the divine.

Story Behind the Poem: The idea for this poem popped into my mind as I was lying in bed and trying to fall asleep. The concept was so distant from anything I had previously been thinking about that I felt it was likely from God. I grabbed my journal and jotted down the words.

I like to imagine that the Christian life is like squinting through a tiny keyhole. We might be able to identify some of the colors or shadows in the room beyond. However, it's not until the door is flung open that we will be able to fully comprehend what we're seeing. Similarly, our experiences on earth only give us a faint impression of Jesus' Glory. But when we get to Heaven, "all truth will be unveiled." I like to imagine that Heaven will feel astonishingly familiar, yet altogether new.

That being said, following a God we don't fully understand is often painful. In these moments, I remind myself that He is a Perfect Father. Though I might not always be able to discern what He's painting, I trust the Hand of the Artist.

I think this verse beautifully addresses this subject:

"Now we see things imperfectly, like puzzling reflections in a mirror, but then we will see everything with perfect clarity. All that I know now is partial and incomplete, but then I will know everything completely, just as God now knows me completely."

- 1 Corinthians 13:12 (NLT)

Hope this encourages you! Although this poem doesn't directly relate to Advent (which I discussed in my last post), I believe it captures its essence. After all, the Advent season is all about holding onto a faint promise. As always, I'm praying you have a wonderful week. :)

I was reading 1 Corinthians 13:12 the day before you posted, and your poem paints a powerful picture of this verse. Glimpses, silhouettes, and shadows are all things that we see, but they leave us longing for more. The last part of the verse gives me great comfort. Even though we see and know in part, he knows us completely😊
