This week I want to continue our Lenten journey by spotlighting a song called "Sometimes by Step", which is by Rich Mullins. Many of you might have heard it before.
After Adam and Eve were banished from Eden, things looked pretty bleak for humankind. However, several generations later, God uttered a magnificent promise to a withered man named Abraham. "Sometimes by Step" delves into this narrative. I love Abraham's story because it displays the infinite Faithfulness of God. But I also love it because it illustrates the power of trusting the Lord and choosing to follow Him, even when doing so doesn't make sense to us.
Here are the lyrics to the song and the link to a recent cover.
Sometimes by Step
[Verse 1]
Sometimes the night was beautiful Sometimes the sky was so far away Sometimes it seemed to stoop
So close you could touch it
But your heart would break Sometimes the morning came too soon Sometimes the day could be so long There was so much work left to do But so much you'd already done
[Chorus]
O God, You are my God And I will ever praise You O God, You are my God And I will ever praise You
[Post Chorus] And I will seek You in the morning And I will learn to walk in Your ways And step by step You'll lead me And I will follow You all of my days
[Verse 2]
Sometimes I think of Abraham How one star he saw had been lit for me He was a stranger in this land And I am that, no less than he And on this road to righteousness Sometimes the climb can be so steep I may falter in my steps But never beyond Your reach

This song has deeply touched me recently, and I hope it encourages you, too.
Finally, I feel compelled to share this prayer with you:
Dearest Jesus, I pray that as I and everyone reading this move through our days, we would seek to follow You like Abraham. May we not shrink back in fear, or fail to obey you because we can't comprehend your plan. Instead, may we place our complete trust in You, knowing that You Love us perfectly and have beautiful things in store for each of us. Thank you for Your Promises, and the fact that no one or nothing can stop them from coming to pass.
We love You so much. Amen.
Praying you'll have a wonderful week, friends! :)
God told Abram: "Leave your country, your family, and your father's home for a land that I will show you. I'll make you a great nation and bless you. I'll make you famous; you'll be a blessing. I'll bless those who bless you; those who curse you I'll curse. All the families of the Earth will be blessed through you."
- Genesis 12:1-3 (The Message Bible)
Then the Lord took Abram outside and said to him, “Look up into the sky and count the stars if you can. That’s how many descendants you will have!”
And Abram believed the Lord, and the Lord counted him as righteous because of his faith.
- Genesis 15:5-6 (New Living Translation)
Then God said to him, “This is my covenant with you: You’ll be the father of many nations. Your name will no longer be Abram, but Abraham, meaning that ‘I’m making you the father of many nations.’
- Genesis 17:4-5 (The Message Bible)
